Letter From Teacher

This week I received the following e-mail from my 6-year-old son's teacher:

"Tom has been doing some kissing in kindergarten. I'm glad he is so friendly, but please let him know that we don't kiss at school."

When I passed this on, Tom asked why this wasn't allowed (he is part French, after all, so kissing is more-or-less in his blood).

What do I say to him?

I suppose the time has come for that father-to-son facts of life speech!...* I do worry about the US of A sometimes. How can the country (nation? Republic? What's the right terminology?) that gave us Steely Dan, REM and Kevin Spacey have hang-ups of the like? The mind boggles...

*The one about lawsuits, sexual harrassment and so on.

Oh this was by mutual consent. And anyway, Trevor is one of his best friends.

wow! you did not mention that Tom kissed his BOYFRIEND. Now, we are getting slightly clearer. One can almost understnd the teacher, now.
And anyway: you brother Ben was renowned as a great kiss-chaser at Highgate School when he was only four.
Your son is a late developer.

Treveor is Tom's friend, not his boyfriend. There is a subtle, but extremely important difference.

And if Ben had gone to Highgate School, he would have been kiss-chasing boys.

Oh no, more family legends...

Sorry, son. My English is still "wobbly". And of course I was speaking of St. Michael's School, not Highgate.
Sorry, Ben, I shall more often refrain from bringing up "Alten Quark".
Anyhow, whatever friend or boyfriend Tom kissed: what about Ulbricht and Brechniew? THAT was disgusting!
